Which climate protection projects do we support?
Together with our partner First Climate, we support selected projects that benefit both the environment and the people living locally:
🌿 “KlimaKombi+” – Forest conservation in the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve (Indonesia) & support for the Mountain Forest Project in Germany
This combination project links international forest conservation with local engagement. In the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Indonesia, a REDD+ project prevents the conversion of rainforest areas and thus permanently protects a species-rich ecosystem. In addition, the Mountain Forest Project e.V. in Germany is supported. It actively works to preserve and maintain native forests – including in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve.
- Technology: REDD+ (avoiding deforestation), forest conservation and biotope maintenance
- Standard: VCS & CCB
- The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is an internationally recognised standard for validating and verifying voluntary emissions reductions. It ensures that emissions reductions are real, measurable, permanent, additional and verified by independent third parties.
- The Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCB) also assesses the positive impacts of forestry projects on the climate, local communities and biodiversity.
The combination of both standards ensures that climate protection as well as social and ecological added benefits are comprehensively taken into account.
🌍 “Clean drinking water for schools” in Nigeria & Kenya
This project gives students and teachers access to safely treated drinking water. By using water filters, the need to boil water over firewood is avoided, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions and conserving local forest resources.
- Technology: Water treatment (drinking water filters for educational institutions)
- Standard: Gold Standard
The Gold Standard ensures that emissions reductions are real, measurable, additional and permanent. In addition to CO₂ reductions, ecological, social and economic co-benefits are also assessed. The projects demonstrably contribute to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are regularly reviewed by independent third parties. The Gold Standard was co-developed by WWF, among others.
🌱 “Biogas plants in Kerala” in India
This project promotes the installation of small biogas plants in private households. Organic waste and animal residues are used to produce biogas, which replaces fossil fuels and unsustainable biomass. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions while also improving air quality and living conditions locally.
- Technology: Biogas plants (renewable energy from organic residues)
- Standard: Gold Standard
The Gold Standard guarantees that emissions reductions are real, measurable, additional and permanent. In addition, positive contributions to sustainable development, health and quality of life are systematically recorded and verified. The projects are regularly validated and verified by independent auditors.
